When the Lambert Airport
Rotary Club was formed in 1983, Charles R. (Chuck) Ehlert started his
Rotary career as Charter president. He served in that position almost a
year and a half, from idea conception to the end of the first full year as
a Club . He then served as vice president, and has been on the Board many
years.
Chuck served as district newsletter editor for several years, and
also as an Assistant
Governor. He recently received the Four Avenues of Service from the
Lambert Club, is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and his wife Carol is also
a Paul Harris Fellow.
They have two daughters and a son, and three
grandchildren.
Upon graduation from the University of Missouri with a
Bachelor of Journalism degree Chuck was commissioned Second Lieutenant in
the U.S. Army where he served two years on Active Duty. He then served 28
years in the Active Reserve and retired as a Colonel.
Following active duty he worked as editor and publisher
of weekly newspapers in the St. Louis area for four years, then joined
Ozark Air Lines and was director of public relations when the carrier
merged 20 years later. Chuck then started and continues to operate his own
business, Eventtours, a group tour operator.
Prior to Rotary he was active in the Jaycees for many
years, serving as Region Vice President, National Director (region
president) and state Vice President.
He has worked with several professional and civic
organizations, including: Aviation/Space Writers Association as an
international director and international convention chairman; Multiple
Sclerosis Society as a member of the board and and executive committee;
Combined Health Appeal as a founding board member; Habitat for
Humanity of St. Charles County on the board, executive committee and PR
chairperson.
