Matching Grant # 58492

Rotary International organizes districts together in groups of 12 or 13 districts called a Zone.  Usually two neighboring zones meet together annually and hold training and informational sessions.

All twenty-four Rotary Districts in Zones 29 & 30 decided at their Zone Institute in Memphis, TN to fund a Matching Grant project to drill a water well in San Martin de las Piramides, Estada de Mexico, just outside of Mexico City.  We are working with the Rotary Club of Ojo de Agua, and Rotary District 4170.

Rotarians are investing over $42,800 via our Rotary Foundation in this project.

San Martin de las Piramides has a well that was giving out. The output was decreasing quickly and was not able to provide all the water the village needs.  Engineers have determined that there was an underground river just over 1,000 meters below ground that will be able to supply all the water necessary for the town.

This project funded the drilling costs and also a water pump to be installed to pump the water into an existing water tank.

Project was approved on December 23, 2005. Funds have arrived and work is nearly complete.

A team of Rotarians led by D6560 Governor Martin Limbird traveled to D4170 in late February 2006 to visit with project Rotarians.

A new trip is being planned to visit the project site, and fellowship with our partnering Rotarians in District 4170 in late February 2008. Please join us !

Electric transformer that will power the pump.

As of late August 2007, the Rotarians in Mexico are waiting for the government to come and connect the electrical connections which will run the pump.  Then the Rotarians can install the pump, pumping column and well casing and put the well into operation.

Come to Mexico with us - February 2008
