Matching Grant 50754 - RC of Rangpur, Bangladesh D3280
Eye Surgery Project

District 6060 has partnered with D6710 in Western Kentucky and D6040 in Northwestern Missouri to be international sponsors of this project.

Our project partner is the RC of Rangpur in Bangladesh, D3280.  This is a club of 56 members, chartered in 1978, and very active in many projects in its region.

At right, Rangpur Rotarians team up with Rotarians from Dhaka and another local club to distribute winter clothes to the poor people of the region.

The Rotary Club of Rangpur has also sponsored two other Rotary Clubs in the surrounding area, both of which are flourishing.

At left is a picture of Rangpur Rotarians recognizing the completion of a Concentrated Language Encounter (CLE) Literacy project to teach these techniques to teachers of registered non-governmental schools.

Rangpur Rotarians present sewing machines to orphans as part of a vocational training project.

Our Rotary Foundation will spend nearly $12,000 to fund 320 eye surgeries and to purchase a surgical microscope, such as the one used at right.  This equipment will allow the local ophthalmologists to perform a higher quality of cataract operation with better outcomes for the patients.

Clubs in District 6060 can fulfill a requirement of the "Our World" section of the Presidential Citation by sponsoring some of these eye surgeries.

The simplest way to do this is to have each of your club members sponsor one eye surgery apiece for a donation of $30 per eye surgery.  These donations will be donated in the members name or in the name of the club, if you prefer, to the Annual Programs Fund of our Rotary Foundation. They will count toward our goal of $100 per Rotarian every year and towards your club's goal for Annual Programs giving this year.  They will also count toward Paul Harris Fellowship credit.

Checks should be made payable to "Rotary Foundation" and mailed to District 6060 Foundation Chairman Todd Lindley, along with a note stating that this donation is to sponsor some of the eye surgeries being done this year.

Certificates will be developed to present to clubs and Rotarians  who sponsor some of these surgeries.
Make sure your club is a 100% club.
