Matching Grant #54815- RC of Amboro, Bolivia D4690
Literacy Project

Bolivia currently has a very high adult illiteracy rate. Much of the country is very rural, with isolated villages. The "Fundacion Instituto Radiofonica Fe Y Alegria" (IFRA) is a radio broadcast based literacy and vocational training organization.

The IFRA broadcasts lessons over the air-waves and then sends out tutors and professors to give exams and certify that the students are learning the material well. The IFRA reaches over 15,000 students per year and are completely accredited within Bolivia.

This project will provide the funds for Rotarians to purchase new computers, software and printer for the IFRA, which is currently functioning with machinery over 10 years old. They use these computers and printers to produce their study materials, exams and student records.

Clubs in D6060 can fulfill one of two different requirements for the Presidential Citation by participating in this project. One Vocational requirement is for each club to "conduct a literacy or education project internationally or in your community." a project to improve literacy and numeracy in the workplace."  An International requirement is to "develop and initiate a new project in support of international service that will be carried out by at least half your members." Another would be "Increase contributions to The Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund, with the goal of meeting or exceeding $100 per capita."

Clubs can fulfill one of these requirements by making a substantial donation to the Annual Programs Fund of our Rotary Foundation.

We are offering 1,000  "Shares of Support" for this project, each for a $12 donation to the Annual Programs Fund of our Rotary Foundation.

Checks should be made payable to "Rotary Foundation" and mailed to District 6060 Foundation Chairman Todd Lindley, along with a note stating that this donation is to sponsor some shares in the Bolivian Literacy project.

STATUS: Project approved, most work complete.

We had 1,000 Shares of Support available. They have all been sponsored now.  Thank you.
