Matching Grant # 58096 - Nigeria Water Well Project

This matching grant project will fund 2 water wells, together with pumps and a sanitary spigot area for filling water jugs. These  wells will be located in two communities in Nigeria, Rotary District 9130.

One town is Iseyin, in the Koso area of town. This is in the Iseyin Local Government area of Nigeria. This well will serve approximately 5,000 people.

Also serving 5,000 people, the other well is in Iwoye-Jesa in Oriade Local Government, Nigeria.

In addition to Rotary District 6060, the other funding partners are Rotary District 6490 and the Rotary Club of Osogbo-Oroki in Rotary District 9130.  The international sponsor club is Normal, Illinois, USA, D6490.
 

Clean water is extremely scarce, resulting in many of the poor population having to walk for hours a day to find a good source of water, or risk illness and death if a closer, contaminated water source is used.

Each well will supply a 1,000 families or more, roughly 5,000 people. So, this project will help nearly 10,000 have a nearby source of clean water.

Our Rotary Foundation will invest just over US $7,000 for each of these wells. The partnering Rotary Districts have funded their portions of the project with District Designated Funds, so that the project funds can arrive as soon as possible once the project is approved.

Here in D6060, we encourage our Rotarians or any of our Rotary Clubs to sponsor one of these wells by donating $50 per club member to the Annual Programs Fund of our Rotary Foundation.

Individual Rotarians can donate to the Annual Programs Fund to sponsor one or more $50 "Shares of Support" for our water well project.

Donations from D6060 Clubs or Rotarians should be made payable to "Rotary Foundation" and mailed to Foundation Chairman Todd Lindley, with a note that you would like this donation to help sponsor one of the water wells.
