Matching Grant # 58413 - Rotary District 3160 - India
Literacy, Health and Vocational Development Project

This is a multi-faceted project we've called "Literacy, Health, and Vocational Development." Three Rotary clubs in District 3160 which are located nearby each other joined together and we combined three different sub-projects into one larger one, to be able to utilize the power of a Rotary Foundation Matching Grant.

Literacy

bullet

75 desks to accommodate 150 students

bullet

Girls Education - 2 pairs of uniforms, geometry box, pens, pencils and notebooks for 250 girls

Health

bullet

We constructed a toilet block at a Government Girls Junior College serving 1,000 girls, who had no toilet facilities at all.

Vocational Development

bullet

9 silk weaving looms for poor women. They each agree to train one additional woman each year in the craft of silk-weaving.

bullet

20 pushcarts for poor women who will be trained in basic details of micro-business management. These carts are typically used to sell fruit and vegetables or perhaps tea.

The three D3160 clubs working together as Project Clubs are the Rotary Clubs of Dharmavaram Midtown, Raichur, and Sullurpet.

International partners are the Rotary Club of Narre Warren, Victoria, Australia, D99820, as well as Missouri District 6060 and Illinois District 6490 in the USA.

The various sponsoring Rotary Clubs and Rotary Districts, as well as Our Rotary Foundation are funding this project with nearly US $22,500.
