And we are dispensing another 1,000 pairs of safety glasses to workers who are high risk of eye injury which could lead to cataract or blindness.

This project brings together several new partners.  The project Rotary Club is the RC of Dharmavaram Midtown, Andhra Pradesh, India, D3160. The international sponsoring club is the RC of South Gateway-South Bend, Indiana, USA, D6540. Also providing funding are the Blindness Prevention Donor Advised Fund, and Rotary Districts 6060-eastern Missouri; D6110-portions of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma; and District 6540-northern Indiana.

Here are a few of our early stories:

This young fellow is a college student working toward his masters degree.

With his pupil dilated, it is apparent that his cataract is quite large and mature. He has no vision left in this eye.

After surgery, his vision is excellent and he can return to his studies again.

Dozens, sometimes hundreds, of patients appear at the screening camps to be selected for surgery.

This little girl developed a cataract following a perforating injury to her eye.

A cataract has developed in just a few days after the injury.

Due to her young age, a top-of-the-line foldable lens implant was placed, so that future surgeries might be avoided and the best vision could be obtained. She has regained much of her eyesight following the cataract removal and placement of her new lens. Her new eyeglasses give her normal vision.
