Rotary Foundation donations
in 2006-2007...

Educational Programs

·         Academic Year Ambassadorial Scholarship – (name withheld from public website) – $23,000. Planning to study Political Science, with emphasis in African Studies and Developmental Studies. Interested in studying in Benin, Senegal, Nigeria, or Sierra Leone.

·         Six-Month Cultural Scholarship – (name withheld from public website) - $15,000. Planning to take part in a cultural immersion program in rural Venezuela to become fluent in Spanish and completely culturally aware of their culture and lifestyle.

·         Peace Fellow Program

o   donated $25,000 to fund one of the 60 Peace Fellows.  Cape Girardeau native finished up his second year as a Peace Fellow, earning his Masters Degree at the Christian University in Tokyo, Japan.

o   Donated $2,500 to the Zone 29 & 30 – Heartland of America Peace Fellow Endowment, a joint multi-year effort of the 24 districts in Rotary Zones 29 and 30.

·         Group Study Exchange – to India District 3160 - $11,000. Sent our team of five Missourians to rural India to live in Rotarian homes and travel throughout rural India for four weeks.

Humanitarian Programs –

·         District Simplified Grant – we  received $24,000 to give out to our clubs as Community Assistance Program Grants (CAP Grants). We gave out 25 grants to 25 of our Rotary Clubs for use in local projects.

·         Matching Grants – 18 grants were applied for and approved. 1 was later withdrawn by the project club. We authorized the use of $64,614 for these projects.  Total project size was $557,067.

o   MG 60814 – we invested $2,833.50. Total project size - $15,167. Funded 500 cataract surgeries, refraction exams and dispensing of 1,000 prescription glasses, 500 pairs of safety glasses for agricultural workers. Location: D3150-India.

o   MG 60996 – we invested $5,886. Total project size - $30,731. Purchased vehicle and equipment for vocational training program of local community college. Location: D3180-India. Later withdrawn by project club.

o   MG 61213 – we invested $3,421.50. Total project size - $27,239. Purchased van for rural dental college, which is installing a 2 chair dental office for use in treatment of rural poor people. Location: India-D3160.

o   MG 61340 – we invested $8,000. Total project size - $50,000. Purchased laser and other eye surgery equipment for clinic in rural eastern India to help those going blind from diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and detached retinas. Location: India-D3020.

o   MG 61469 – we invested $5,875. Total project size - $25,946. Purchased equipment to fabricate water purification filters for entire town. They will be able to continue making these as profit center for village as well.  Location: Honduras.

o   MG 61570 – we invested $3,425. Total project size - $44,000. Fund 6 water wells next to grade schools in Zambia. Location: Zambia.

o   MG 61649 – we invested $5,000. Total project size - $30,000. Purchased school equipment for 25-30 schools in D3160 – India

o   MG 61683 – we invested $750. Total project size - $52,000. Purchased 4 milk cooling tanks and 24 milking machines for rural dairy farmers in Romania.

o   MG 61690 – we invested $2,350. Total project size - $37,000. Funded the construction of a water tower, with pump and generator for rural village in Niger.

o   MG 61842 – we invested $3,505. Total project size - $15,160. Purchased 2 refrigerators and 2500 doses of anti-rabies vaccine to save the lives of 500 children bitten by rabid dogs in Moradabad, India, D3100.

o   MG 61857 – we invested $3,125. Total project size - $12,500. Purchased school equipment for kindergarten in Matamoros, Mexico D4130.

o   MG 61986 – we invested $3,000. Total project size - $37,100. Funded 1,000 cataract surgeries in Pakistan.

o   MG 62066 – we invested $3,125. Total project size - $30,000. Funded 1,160 artificial limbs (Jaipur Foot style) for those maimed by polio and serious accidents in southern India. Location: D3200-India.

o   MG 62068 – we invested $3,100. Total project size - $49,600. Funded the purchase of 800 sewing machines to be given to women self-help groups in southern India. Location: D3200-India.

o   MG 62206 – we invested $5,237. Total project size - $10,624.  Purchased equipment for Casa Materna in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, a center for women in high-risk pregnancies.

o   MG 62332 – we invested $4,000. Total project size - $45,500. Funded 1,500 cataract surgeries. Also funded refraction exams and dispensing of 2,000 prescription eyeglasses and 1,000 pair of safety glasses for agricultural workers. Location – D3160-India.

o   MG 62505 – we invested ZERO. Total project size - $24,130. Funded the creation and distribution of 5,000 books for dozens of schools in Egypt, to help keep children in school and increase literacy. Location: D2450 – Egypt.

o   MG 63332 – we invested $2,000. Total project size - $20,400. Funded 200 cataract surgeries in rural Thailand.

o   Matching Grant Summary – we invested $64,614. Total projects size - $557,067. AWESOME ! ! !

Polio Eradication

·         Donated $6,000 to PolioPlus Partners

Summary

·         In 2003-2004 we donated $254,769 to the Annual Programs Fund. 50% of this comes back to us in 2006-2007 to spend on Educational and Humanitarian Projects, including Polio Eradication

·         Then, in 2006-2007:

o   We invested $98,000 of our Rotary Foundation donations directly on Missourians or in Missouri.

o   We invested another $64,614 on International projects in 10 other countries.

o   Through other donations and by participating in the above 18 Matching Grants, we also partially controlled the spending of an additional  $505,953.
