All Missouri Rotary Clubs began a special project to Celebrate Rotary during our Centennial Year. We planned to collect "Shoes for Orphan Souls."Our goal was to collect over 100,000 pairs of shoes and bring them to our District Conference, where UPS provided semi-trailers and shippe them directly to Buckner International's sorting and distribution center in Texas. This goal broke down to approximately 10 pairs for every Rotarian in Missouri. These shoes were new and suitable for children from birth to 18 years old. Keep in mind these might be the ONLY pair of shoes these children have, so sensible, durable, comfortable, closed toe shoes were preferable to fancy shoes, or high heels, or sandals. Shoelaces and socks were also highly desired, but no goals for these were set. Results:Over 70,000 pairs of shoes were collected by Rotarians in Districts 6040, 6060, and 6080 in Missouri. These were delivered to Buckner Orphan Care International by UPS and were sorted, with distribution to occur over the next several months.Thank you to all who donated and collected shoes. There will be over 70,000 orphans receiving new shoes during this next year. |
