 Matching Grant #66713
Water Catchment System & Dental Equipment
Medical/Dental Clinic
Buloba Village, Uganda

This project funded the purchase of a water catchment system for the Buloba Village Community Health Centre in Ngangi Sub-county, Kyadondo County, Wakso District, Uganda.

Rotarians from the Mengo, Uganda Rotary club provide medical and dental care to the villagers of Buloba Village on a regular basis.  Lack of clean water limits the number of patients that can be seen at each visit. Also lack of electricity, meaning no lights further limits the amount of time available for medical and dental missions.

Rotarian dentists would have to pack up all their instruments and after using them once, would have to quit and return to their regular office back in the city.

This project funded the installation of a rainwater catchment system of guttering and storage cans to vastly increase the quantity of clean water the medical clinic and village has availble. Also a solar water heating panel was installed to help create hot water.  Additionally, solar electric panels were installed on the roof to provide electricity, stored in batteries for nightime use. Finally, an autoclave and extensive array of dental equipment was purchased to allow for sterilization of dental equipment while on-site, for continued use multiple times while the dentist remains on location providing service.
