ROTARY DISTRICT 6060 CULTURAL EXCHANGE

A Rotary Cultural Exchange is a reciprocal exchange between Rotary District 6060 and another Rotary District to create new friendships and foster international understanding and good will. Participants are ambassadors for their own club, for District 6060, and for our country. A Rotary Cultural Exchange is an intense social and cultural experience that will broaden and enrich your view of Rotary and the world.

Responsibilities and Obligations of Outbound Team Members

The Rotarian and his/her travel partner must be in good health, able to participate fully in the activities of the Cultural Exchange, and sustain long hours of activity and social interaction.

A Rotarian’s travel partner is usually a spouse or partner, but could also be an adult child or other family member. Single Rotarians are encouraged to participate in the exchange with another Rotarian or an adult family member or friend.

Rotarians should be active, engaged Rotarians who will serve as ambassadors of District 6060 while visiting in the host country.

Rotarians must have the support of their Rotary Club. The Club and the Outbound Team member must be willing to host the reciprocal Inbound Team if they are called upon.

A Rotary Cultural Exchange is not a free ride. Outbound Team members are responsible for their travel expenses including airfare to and from the host country; passports and visas; immunizations; one night’s hotel stay in the host country immediately before the exchange begins; trip cancellation insurance and medical insurance. Team members can expect to pay for restaurant meals and entry fees to tourist sites in the host country, to treat their hosts to a meal, and to provide a small gift to their hosts.

While team members may make their own airfare arrangements, all travel plans must be shared with the other Outbound Team members and the District Cultural Exchange Chair. It is preferable that the team try to travel together to the host country and to depart at the same time.

Team members are expected to stay in the host country for the entirety of the planned Cultural Exchange and team members will typically depart at the same time at the conclusion of the Exchange. Any extended travel in the host country or elsewhere should be planned at the end of the Cultural Exchange experience, not prior to the exchange.

Team members will provide information to the Cultural Exchange Chair when he requests things such as a brief biography, photos, photocopies of passports, copy of travel documents, emergency contact information, etc.

District 6060 will purchase the Outbound Team’s name badges, business cards, and team brochure.
